Christopher Reuel Tolkien foi o terceiro filho de J.R.R. Tolkien e Edith Tolkien. Ele foi o executivo literário da Tolkien Estate até sua resignação em 2017. Christopher editou grande parte do trabalho de seu pai para publicações póstumas e também o auxiliou no desenvolvimento de mapas e correções de sua obra.
Biografia[]
Nascido em Leeds, na Inglaterra, Christopher cresceu em Oxford e veio a servir como piloto na Segunda Guerra Mundial. Ele foi enviado para a África do Sul. Após a guerra, seguiu carreira acadêmica se tornando professor de inglês e islandês antigo na Universidade de Oxford. Após a morte de seu pai em 1973, Christopher se tornou o executor literário do Tolkien Estate e passou a editar e publicar o material inédito de seu pai, começando com Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, Pearl and Sir Orfeo em 1975, seguido por O Silmarillion em 1977 e A Queda de Gondolin em 2018.[3]
